Questions.

The eleven questions we receive most often, answered as straightforwardly as we can manage. If yours is not here, write to us.

01.
How accurate is it, in practice?

Across our validated test set of 14,800 engines paired with verified mechanical outcomes, Revly correctly identifies the dominant failure mode 93.4% of the time when one is present. Accuracy is higher for common conditions (bearing wear, exhaust leaks, lifter tick) and lower for rare or compound issues. Every finding ships with a confidence score so you know how much weight to give it.

02.
Do I need any hardware to use it?

No. Your phone's built-in microphone is the entire sensor. No OBD2 dongle, no Bluetooth pairing, no shop equipment. Modern smartphone mics are surprisingly competent in the frequency bands that matter for combustion acoustics.

03.
Which vehicles are supported?

Gasoline internal combustion engines from roughly 1996 onward, across most major manufacturers. Diesel is supported in beta with a smaller failure library. Rotary, two-stroke, motorcycles, and small engines are not yet supported. Electric vehicles are not a fit; we are built around combustion acoustics.

04.
Will it work in a noisy environment?

Revly handles moderate ambient noise reasonably well. A quiet residential street is ideal; a busy highway shoulder is not. The app rates your recording environment before submitting it for analysis, so you will know if you need to find a quieter spot.

05.
Is it a replacement for a mechanic?

Categorically not. Revly is a heads-up tool, an early warning system. We tell you what we hear and what it may indicate. Diagnosing the precise root cause and performing the repair still requires a qualified mechanic. The reports are designed to make those conversations shorter and better informed, not to replace them.

06.
Can I use it on a used car I'm thinking of buying?

Yes. This is, by a wide margin, the most popular use of the beta. Run a scan in the seller's driveway before you sign anything. Test drives often miss the early-stage acoustic signs of expensive future repairs, and a Revly report tends to make subsequent negotiations more honest.

07.
What happens to my recordings?

They are uploaded for analysis and stored linked to your account so we can track your engine's profile over time. We do not sell them. We do not share them with third parties. Anonymous, aggregate use for improving our models is opt-in and off by default.

08.
Does it work offline?

Recording is fully on-device, so you can capture audio anywhere. The heavier analysis runs on our servers, so a connection is required to receive the report. Once delivered, your history and past reports are viewable offline.

09.
How long does a single scan take?

About 90 seconds to capture the three states (cold idle, warm idle, controlled rev) and under three minutes for analysis to return. Most users are done in well under five minutes from opening the app.

10.
What does it cost?

During the closed beta, nothing. After public launch, we will offer a free tier suitable for occasional use, a paid tier for unlimited scans and full features, and a fleet tier for commercial operators. Beta participants lock in founding-member pricing permanently.

11.
When does it launch publicly?

Public launch is targeted for later in 2026. Closed beta is active now with capacity for additional applicants. Beta participants lock in founding-member pricing permanently and keep their full data history through the transition.
